NEXT STEPSDUAL PLACEMENTS
Most children who attend the Centre will, when the time is right, also attend a local mainstream pre-school setting. We extend invitations to Early Years Practitioners, SENCOs and Key-workers to visit and liaise jointly with our staff and therapists before and during the child’s placement. We also provide an Outreach/Inreach consultation service offering professional mentoring and support to colleagues in mainstream settings throughout the Devizes, Melksham and outlining villages area to assist the settings in answering the child’s needs within an inclusive environment. This also ensures the child receives consistent strategies within both learning environments. MOVING ONTO SCHOOL
We promote strong links with local Infant/Primary Schools, Specialist Resource Bases and Special Schools. For those children who stay with us until school age we work together to ensure a smooth transfer on to each child’s eventual school placement. If it is likely that a child will continue to need a high degree of additional specialist support when starting primary education, we will liaise with parents, relevant mainstream provisions and the Wiltshire SEND service to initiate or contribute to a request for an Education Health Care Plan. The EHCP (formerly known as a Statement of Educational Needs) will ensure the child’s needs will be fully met in school. We will collate all the necessary evidence, liaise with relevant health professionals and support parents through this sometimes daunting process. Prior to a child commencing primary education a Transition Meeting is arranged at which relevant information is shared to ensure the school is aware of all the child’s needs and a flexible, appropriate induction program devised to reassure and familiarize the child with his new environment. The program might include a visit to the Centre by the Reception Class Teacher or Teaching Assistant and visits by the child to the new school environment. |
