OUTLINE OF SERVICE

Once a referral is received the Manager visits the family at home to tell them about the Centre and the support that can be offered to their Child and themselves.  Parents are then invited to visit the Centre to see it for themselves.  If it is mutually agreed that the placement would prove beneficial, two sessions (5 hours in total) are allocated per Child per week.
During the first few weeks the child has time to settle in, get to know staff and feel comfortable in their new environment whilst the team members observe and work with the child, make initial assessments and build relationships with their parents.
Each child will receive a targeted programme aimed at ensuring each Child reaches their full potential.  We will make referrals where necessary to health professional who can provide additional support such as: Speech and Language therapist, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

We operate on a high adult to child ratio 1:2 or 1:1 dependent on each Childs need in order to deliver a high quality programme of therapies and strategies.

The program might include:
  • Play activities designed to target specific areas of development
  • Physiotherapy exercises and activities
  • Speech and Language targeted activities and schemes of work
  • Occupational Therapy activities and schemes of work
  • Advice to ensure correct positioning, specialist seating and mobility aids etc.

Therapy is ongoing and reviewed as necessary.  Regular Team Around the Child Meetings are held in order to plan a coordinated approach for both the present and future needs of each child. These meetings have a strong emphasis on parents, health, education and social care professionals working in partnership.  Together with the parents they identify the child's strengths and needs and a plan is devised to enable: the child to progress, to support inclusion and to support parents.

Please note: Due to Covid-19 we are unable to carry out home visits at present.  We are still accepting referrals and visits to the Centre by prospective parents are arranged in accordance with Covid guidelines.

Outreach Service
We provide an outreach service to all mainstream settings in the East of Wiltshire as well as to parents of children who are not able to attend the Centre at present due to COVID-19.
